Also known as Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder, characterized by:

  • Disturbed identity and unclear self-image
  • Unstable relationships with intense fluctuations from extreme positivity to extreme negativity
  • Viewing people and events in black-and-white terms
  • Persistent fear of abandonment and efforts to avoid being left
  • Repetitive self-destructive behaviors
  • Feelings of emptiness
  • Impulsive behavior
  • Difficulty controlling anger and conflicts (impulsivity followed by regret)
  • Affective reactions (difficulty managing emotions)
  • Difficulty in setting and achieving goals (trouble maintaining a course of action)
  • Impulsive and risky repetitive behaviors
  • High predisposition towards substance use
